What is a Business Rest?
It’s the middle of April 2025. Post-COVID, pre-election #2 in Canada.
The world is a little unsteady right now. Things are changing day-to-day, sometimes hour-to-hour and people are feeling it.
Burnout is at an all time high!
Business owners are stressed. Worrying about selling products and services, debating raising their prices, fearing they will lose more customers, reeling with the worry of if they will survive ‘til the end of the year.
So, let’s address the elephant in the room …
How does the economic and political systems that are dominating news lines right now impact you and your business?
As much as you would like to avoid them, we need to understand them and we need to plan how to work with them or around them.
Here are a few common themes that are prevalent across most industries to take note of:
The market is changing.
How people buy, when they buy and why they buy have shifted significantly in the last 5 years.
Your customers’ buying habits have changed again in 2025.
Can you tell me how your customer’s habits have changed in the last 12 months?
Are you still trying to sell your products and services the same way as you were in 2019?
Or, are you selling across too many platforms and media which is causing confusion for your customers?
Referrals are still king because people want ‘easy’ answers.
They want confidence in what they buy or who they work with.
They don’t need more stress, they are seeking simpler ways to research what they are looking for and trusting other people’s experiences to guide them.
People fear wasting or losing money.
So, they are more resistant (right now) to try new things.
Business owners know they need to spend money. They know they need to invest in their business to grow.
BUT because the market has changed and they fear spending more money in a volatile economy, they are playing it safe. They are doing more things on their own - or at least trying to.
Interestingly enough, this is leading to more stress, more burnout and more businesses closing due to business owners depleting their time, energy and resources.
Now, here’s the good news!
People are still spending money.
People are still starting businesses every day.
People still want and need your products and services.
Entrepreneurs are passionate and resilient!
So, how do you use the things you can't control to build and grow your business in 2025?
You need to PAUSE and stop trying a million and one new things, grasping at straws.
You need to REFLECT. Learn from your successes and mistakes. Stop trying to recreate the wheel!
You need to allow yourself the time to RESET and create a plan with actionable steps to actually GROW your business.
